We visited Sailor’s Pub with a larger group on Schnitzel Wednesday. Unfortunately, the start was quite chaotic because our reserved table was already occupied by another guest when we arrived. Since there were no table numbers or signs on the tables, we assumed that a different table in the room was ours. A few minutes later, the actual group who had reserved that table arrived, which made the situation a bit awkward. It also turned out that the guest who had been sitting at our real reserved table was only there because the staff apparently hadn’t noticed or considered the reservation sign. She had to move when everything was sorted out, which could have been avoided with clearer table labeling. The food itself was very good, although the portions were inconsistent. We ordered five schnitzels with similar sides, but the sizes varied noticeably. Some plates had fewer croquettes, some had smaller schnitzels, which was a bit strange. The pepper sauce was very strong for some people, but personally I think that is expected from a pepper sauce. The steakhouse fries were a little bland but tasted fine with some added salt. Service-wise, the waitress accidentally spilled some beer on one person in our group. She apologized several times, but that was about it. Despite the issues, the atmosphere of the pub is actually very charming. It is old-fashioned and wooden inside, which creates a cozy and classic pub vibe. Overall, the food tasted good, but the table confusion, small service mistakes and inconsistent portion sizes make it more of a 3-star experience for me.

I've been there on and off for the last 3 years. The people & vibe are super. Apparently a change of ownership from 3 years ago, but all I can say is Sailor's pub is always a good idea. Check out DJ Chrys's awesome sets every Friday! Of course the lovely Sophia will take good care of you when you are there. Xx

Absolute disaster of a place. Waited over two hours for food, one person in our group waited another hour after that. Waiting staff who have seemingly only recently arrived on Earth, completely clueless. Tunes are on point.

No frills-bar, lively clientele (it's karaoke night!) and an attentive bar manager. What more do you need on a Monday night??

The best schnitzel in Essen. Me and my friends love the tradition of going to Spiel then eating some nice schnitzel and drinking good beers at Sailors pub afterwards.
