  I visited The Malt Shovel, Edinburgh last summer and remember it fondly, especially the fish and chips. This time felt like a different place altogether. The restaurant was not busy, yet the service was oddly indifferent, as if customers were invisible unless they insisted. The fish & chips was plain and forgettable, stripped of the character I once admired. Whatever charm this place once had has quietly disappeared. There will be no third visit.

  We stopped in here for a quick bite. The wild boar and mash was absolutely amazing, full of flavor and one of my favorite dishes. My husband did the fish and chips and enjoyed it. For randomly stopping in we were pleasantly surprised, we loved it. Great service and great vibes! Would recommend to anyone stopping for a quick bite.

  Absolutely not recommended！絕對不推薦！ This place completely ruined my plan to enjoy some traditional Scottish food in Edinburgh❤️‍🩹💔👎🏻 No one acknowledged us after we entered, so we had to approach the bar ourselves. When we finally found a waitress, her attitude was terrible — she looked annoyed the moment we made eye contact and just went back to what she was doing. The restaurant was so noisy we couldn’t even hear what she said, and still, no one bothered to help us. If you want to experience awful service, this is the place to go.

  Just starting from the style, the furniture, the design, this place is very very good. Fish and chips very well prepared.also the Scottish eggs were deelicious. During the lunch the place is a lot less crowded than during the dinner.

  Best meal I had in Edinburgh! Love love the steak and ale pie. Perfectly balanced flavor. Love the gravy. Unsure if portion size is just right or if i just really liked the meal! Staff welcoming too. Would eat here again if I return to Edinburgh!
