Lovely meal late on a Saturday. This gem is tucked away and kind of awkward for the rest of Victoria. The residents of James Bay however can pop in for a tasty meal and day! Great food! I had the pork tenderloin special and it was the perfect combination of texture, flavour, and spice level that really had me wondering if I should order another potion. Atmosphere is pretty typical for a bustling Bistro tucked away in a residential area. Plenty of warm lighting, eclectic interior decorating items that still fit the aesthetic. Staff were wonderful, I found it pleasant that no one came to ask me how the food was, mid bite, so I would have to do the awkward head bob. All in all I would recommend! James Bay has a bunch of really good restaurant and Heron Rock Bistro is definitely one of them.

Absolutely lovely evening we had last night at the Heron Rock. Monday nights have live music and $15 off all wines. We enjoyed listening to Lee Gordon perform. Talented and entertaining musician. Our waiter Callum was so attentive and friendly. We had some good chats with him. I had the mushroom linguine which was delicious. My husband had a fixed menu that included a yummy salad, a plentiful lamb, potato and squash dish and a pumpkin bread pudding for dessert. We should have danced to the music to wear off all our delicious food. Be sure to check out this wonderful local place in James Bay.

I got the beef burger and the potato skins. The burger was good, it had a little bit of kick to it. The potato skins were so good. I definitely recommend ordering them.

My wife brought me here as she was raving about this place last summer when she visited Victoria with her mom, who came over from Japan. My wife ordered the French onion soup and 2 crab cakes. I ordered a 3 egg breakfast that came with bacon, English bangers, marble rye toast and fried potatoes. Also got a cup of chowder and 2 fresh buns. The service was excellent. Very attentive and very friendly. The food came out hot and fresh. Everything was excellent. I'm knocking a star off for the following reason - the French onion soup. The French onion soup had a lot of rosemary in it. My wife couldn't finish it. I tried it and found the rosemary overpowered the flavour of onions and broth. It was just our opinion and we prefer not so much rosemary. It was definitely quality and served nice and hot. No problems there. Just would have preferred less rosemary. The chowder was fantastic. The flavors were perfect and some of the best chowder I've had. Will definitely be back next visit to Victoria. Hopefully for dinner so I can try some seafood items 😋

Tucked away in James Bay, Heron Rock Bistro had been sitting in my bookmarks forever—and I’m glad I finally made it through a FAM visit. Tried the Dungeness Crab & Shrimp Benny (half salad, half potatoes), and the crispy potatoes with fried onions? Unexpected and so good. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and unfussy. The vibe is low-key and real—like your favourite brunch spot that hasn’t gone viral yet. Arnold and Rachel were on point—friendly without the fluff. Definitely keen to come back and see what dinner here feels like. This place is a total hidden gem.
