Welcoming, dog friendly pub. It's at a very touristy place next to the castle, so it's great that it offers good food at decent prices. Cullen skink was nice and creamy, loved the salmon. The veggie haggis was nice too. Good service.

The pub is bright , cozy and welcoming: the staff are friendly. The location looks out into the Grassmarket. It was a great interlude in a busy day of walking. I had the best fish and chips I have ever had! The fish portion was huge, and the chips were so tasty . I ate and ate but I honestly couldn’t finish it all. So delicious . Definitely recommended, and I will definitely be back.

Absolutely love this little gem of a pub! It’s cozy, not loud, the service is excellent - all with a smile - very well managed team! The food is EXCELLENT! I wanted something comforting and it was so delicious! I wasn’t feeling well and the supervisor brought me hot water with lemon, I thought it was very thoughtful of him. Went twice in a row, would go again next time I visit Edinburgh!

A little slow to get started (they probably forgot we were seated for lunch). But once started, absolutely great. Service was nice and fast, with good recommendations on what local beers to try. Main dish (haddock and chips) was delicious (chips cooked to perfection) and we tried the deep fried Mara bar which was a fun discovery. We loved it! Update. We came back the next day to tray the haggis which was also delicious (see photo).

Excellent service from Martin! Love the atmosphere of this place. The food is very very good. Best vegetarian haggis I’ve tried. Very filling and savory. The hake fish starter was tasty. Also really enjoyed the Buffalo cauliflower. Martin was very attentive and turned on the women’s soccer match for us. Had a great time here and hope to come back again.
